How GPS Location Works

Gabb devices use cell towers, GPS, & WiFi to track their location. The Phone or Watch receives signals from nearby cell towers, satellites, & WiFi routers, then uses this information to determine the location of your device.

Turn on location monitoring

Here’s how you can turn on location monitoring for your Gabb Phone or Gabb Watch:

  1. Log in to the MyGabb app on your smartphone.
  2. Select the Devices tab, then select Profile next to your device.
  3. Select the pencil icon next to the Location Monitoring section.
  4. Enable Location monitoring, then select Update Settings.

Manually refresh GPS location

GPS location automatically updates every 15 minutes, but you can update the location manually at any time. Here’s how:

  1. Log in to the MyGabb app on your smartphone.
  2. Select the profile icon of your device on the map.
  3. Click Locate at the bottom of the screen. The location of your Gabb device will update.

Set up a Safe Zone

You can use the MyGabb app to set up a Safe Zone for your child. When they enter or leave a Safe Zone, we’ll send you a notification on your smartphone.

When your child enters or leaves a Safe Zone, you’ll get updated anytime between one second and 15 minutes, based on how long ago you received the last location update. You can also click the Locate button in the MyGabb app if you want a quicker location update.

You can set up a Safe Zone in a few easy steps:

  1. Log in to the MyGabb app on your smartphone.
  2. Select the Devices tab, then select Profile next to your child’s device.
  3. Select Manage in the Safe Zones section.
  4. Select New Safe Zone.
  5. Enter the Safe Zone details, then select Save.

Issues with location

Delayed location

Location updates may be delayed when the device is off or has a low signal. Make sure your device is turned on & has a strong cellular connection, or is connected to WiFi.

Location not accurate

If your device’s location is not accurate, make sure your device is turned on & has a strong cellular connection, or is connected to WiFi. After you’re connected, restart your device, then manually refresh your device’s location in the MyGabb app.

Location failed

Your device’s location may not update automatically if the device isn’t connected to a strong cell signal or WiFi connection.

Follow these steps if your device isn’t located:

  1. Refresh the device’s GPS location.
  2. Update your MyGabb app to the most recent version.
  3. Enable notifications for MyGabb on your smartphone.
  4. Restart your device.
  5. Move the device to an area with better cell coverage or a WiFi connection.
  6. Charge your device.
  7. Refresh the device’s GPS location.
