Gabb Year in Review: More Safety, Less Stress in 2022

Another year has come and gone but we remain motivated to help families navigate the tricky challenge of living in a digital world.

We find it helpful to pause at the end of the year to consider the progress we’ve made in helping kids be kids and giving parents peace of mind in 2022. Below we’ve pulled together a list of some of the highlights from the year.

Helping families stay safely connected will continue to be a challenge but the progress we’ve all made together over the last year leaves us feeling more optimistic than ever.

2-times more families safely connected

Gabb started when a simple crowdfunding campaign to provide a safe first phone for kids gained momentum. That momentum has grown every year since but this year the enthusiasm for kid-safe tech exploded. We saw nearly as many new members join the Gabb family in 2022 as all our previous years combined. Clearly parents are still hungry for safer ways to help their kids stay connected.

5 new kid-first tech tools

Gabb started with a single device, the Gabb Phone. A couple years later, we added Gabb Watch. In 2022, we added FIVE new products designed with kids as the first thought:

  • Gabb Phone Plus: the premium safe phone for kids.
  • Gabb Watch 2: an upgrade on the phone kids wear.
  • Gabb Music: kid-safe music streaming of hits, new releases, and classics.
  • Gabb Guard: advanced spam blocking technology.
  • Gabb Cloud: digital backup to safely and securely store your kid’s data

100K Parents Actively Engaged in Safer Tech

Gabb is lucky to be part of a larger community of concerned, capable, and caring individuals who are determined to make technology safe for kids. We try to actively engage with that community in a lot of ways and social media is one of the channels that makes that easy. In 2022, we saw our Instagram following grow beyond 100,000: a testament to the growing movement of families who believe we can do better for our kids when it comes to tech.

2 Major TV Appearances

We think our mission at Gabb is pretty important so we were thrilled to find that two major TV shows felt the same way. Gabb was featured on the Kelly Clarkson Show and The Today Show in the last year, yet another great example that we’re not alone when it comes to concerns about how technology is impacting kids today.

300+ PTA Partnerships

In addition to offering safe devices and software, Gabb also works at the grassroots level to provide safe-tech education. We now have partnerships with over 300 local Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) across the country. Parents and teachers nationwide clearly share our enthusiasm for safe-tech education: in 2022 Gabb’s free, online educational content was accessed by over 200,000 people.

1000 Positive Google Reviews

We believe deeply in our mission at Gabb so it’s always encouraging to hear from families who are similarly enthusiastic about kid-safe tech. In 2022, we gained over 1,000 positive Google reviews from parents who are experiencing less stress as they connect more safely with their kids.

As we move into the New Year, Gabb is excited to continue protecting kids through safe tech and education. Join with us in the movement!

Thank you for offering an affordable and safe option to not only know where our children are but also a lifeline for them to call and a way to not access indecent photos or internet content.

What’s the connection with PTAs? Would be interested in learning more about that since the district here just doesn’t seem to listen or be concerned with access to YouTube and other apps on devices esp elementary kids - can you send me more info? Happy Gabb phone and watch customer :)

We are having a hard time with the tasks on his watch. I create the tasks on my app but they don’t always show up for him or allow him to check that he completed them. Not sure what we’re doing wrong or if it needs an update?

5 new products in 2022 but still no Travel/Maps app. We got the Gabb (Plus, no less) with the idea that that app would be coming soon. And yet... it's not there. That's an essential piece of functionality and fulfilling your company's mission, I would suggest. Customer service won't give an ETA on maps functionality. How actively is it being developed? Will it ever ship?

  • Gabb on Feb 08, 2023 03:00 PM

Hi Abram, we understand how this could be frustrating. We are working hard to fulfill our mission and will continue adding apps to help us do that! Unfortunately, we don't have an ETA for a map functionality at this time, but our team is working hard to develop it. We appreciate the feedback!
