We’re excited to introduce four BYU athletes who are joining Team Gabb this year: quarterback Bear Bachmeier, kicker Matthias Dunn, linebacker Cade Uluave, and soccer midfielder Lucy Kesler.
Each of them spent years putting in the work long before anyone was watching, through club practices, summer camps, and plenty of early mornings. We think that’s a story worth telling kids, and we’re glad to have these four help us tell it.
Team Gabb athletes are paid partners of Gabb.
Bear Bachmeier, Quarterback, BYU Football
Bear started his college career at Stanford before transferring to BYU, and in 2025 he became the first true freshman in school history to start a season opener at quarterback. By the end of the year, he’d been named Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year and MVP of the Pop-Tarts Bowl, where BYU came back from 11 points down. He played high school football at Murrieta Valley in Southern California.
Matthias Dunn, Kicker, BYU Football
Matthias grew up in Heber City, Utah, and now handles kicking duties for the Cougars. His longest field goal this season was a 49-yarder against TCU.
Cade Uluave, Linebacker, BYU Football
Cade grew up in South Jordan and played linebacker and running back at Mountain Ridge High School in Herriman. He spent the first part of his college career at Cal, where he was named Pac-12 Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2023 and earned First-Team All-ACC honors in 2025. This year he transferred back to Utah to play for BYU.
Lucy Kesler, Midfielder, BYU Women’s Soccer
Lucy is from Highland, Utah, and played at American Fork High School before graduating a year early to join BYU. She plays holding midfield, the position responsible for breaking up the other team’s attacks, and she’s been good at it. She earned All-Big 12 honors and was one of 10 college players invited to a U.S. U-20 Women’s National Team camp.
Follow Along
We’ll be sharing more from Bear, Matthias, Cade, and Lucy throughout the season, including what they’re working on, how they got started, and what they’d tell kids who want to follow a similar path.
