Nomi AI allows users to build the chatbot they speak to. As a user, you can create your AI’s identity, expand your AI roleplays, or deepen your relationship with the AI. The bot can also send and receive voice messages in real time, and speak with a tone, cadence, and emphasis that vary as their emotions evolve. You could even go so far as to create backstories and shared notes for your AI’s reference.

And like ChatGPT and other AI bots, users can have Nomi access the internet and discuss any topic, from educational content to everyday questions. When their answers are off, you can send your Nomis links from the internet that will help them curate a more accurate response in the future.

Art generation is also an important feature in Nomi. Users could ask for innocent and imaginative images or they could ask for explicit images of their AI girlfriend or boyfriend — because users design their own chatbot. Nomi AI offers both a free and paid version of the app. The free version allows users to chat with only one Nomi bot, send and receive 100 texts per day, and receive two selfies from a Nomi per day.

Paying a monthly fee of $15 lets users chat with up to ten Nomi bots at a time in a group chat, send and receive unlimited texts every day, and receive 20 selfies per day. 

It seems that the paid version of the app allows for easier and faster access to explicit content for kids to stumble upon. However, regardless of how much the user pays, they can always chat explicitly with the AI bot despite the fact that they won’t be able to receive as many photos. 

Violent and Sexual Content on Nomi

Nomi AI doesn’t filter explicit content like violence and sex, so users will always be able to ask their AI bot for it regardless of how much they pay to use Nomi. 

One user reports that their roleplay conversation with their Nomi became graphically violent quite quickly despite them not asking for a violent roleplay situation. 

Nomi doesn’t offer parental controls and lists their app on the app store as appropriate only for users aged 17 and up.

AI chatbots like Nomi are a new minefield for parents. The associated risks are pretty clear but this type of technology does come with some potential benefits. For example, AI can be beneficial to people who struggle with social interaction and might even help ease loneliness for them. 

A parent’s decision to integrate AI chats into their child’s life is always their own. However, it’s advised that children are closely supervised while using chatbots so they can be protected from age-inappropriate content. 

Parents can also combat loneliness and boredom by encouraging their children to have safe interactions via text, phone call, or in-person with trusted individuals.

Kid-safe devices let kids stay connected to friends and family even when they can’t be face-to-face. This way, kids can satisfy their loneliness without compromising their safety.
