Gabb Phone 4 Troubleshooting

Having issues with your Gabb Phone 4? We can help! This article covers some common troubleshooting issues.

Child forgot screen unlock PIN or password

If your child forgot their Gabb Phone PIN or password, you’ll need to do a factory reset of your Phone and set it up again. 

Follow these steps to do a factory reset on your Gabb Phone 4:

  1. Press & hold the power button (bottom button), then select Power off
  2. Hold the volume up and power button down at the same time until the Phone vibrates.
  3. Let go of the buttons after the phone vibrates.
  4. Press the volume up ⬆️ button to navigate to recovery mode, then press the volume down ⬇️ button. You’ll see the No Command screen. 
  5. Hold down the power button, then before letting it go, press volume up ⬆️, volume down ⬇️, and volume up ⬆️. You’ll then see the Android Recovery screen.
  6. Use the volume buttons to navigate to Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
  7. Wait for the data to be wiped, then use the volume buttons to navigate to Restart Device.

We recommend adding a fingerprint once the device is set up again.

GPS location not updating

GPS updates your child’s location updates automatically every 15 minutes; however, you can adjust the settings to have it update every 10, 30, or 60 minutes instead. 

Follow these steps if the GPS location on your Gabb Phone 4 isn’t updating in your specified timeframe: 

  1. Make sure your Gabb Phone 4 is turned on, charged, and has at least three bars of cell service. 
  2. Log in to the MyGabb app on your smartphone.
    1. Update the MyGabb app in your app store, if necessary.
  3. Select the Devices tab.
  4. Select Profile next to the device.
  5. Select the pencil icon in the Location Monitoring section.
    1. Ensure the slider next to Enable is blue (turned on).
    2. Select your monitoring schedule (daytime or custom).
    3. Select the Location Refresh Frequency.
    4. Select Update Settings.
  6. Ensure that the Gabb Phone 4 is connected to cellular service, then attempt to locate the phone again:
    1. Login to the MyGabb app on the parent’s smartphone.
    2. Select the Devices tab.
    3. Select Profile next to the device.
  7. Select Locate to update the GPS location.

If the Gabb Phone isn’t connected to the cellular network, GPS location will not update.

Phone is frozen

Hold the power button and volume down button at the same time for 10 seconds to restart the phone.

Files in Gabb Cloud not restoring

Files not restoring from Gabb Cloud? Log out of your child’s Gabb ID from on Gabb Phone 4, then log back in. You’ll need to log in to the Gabb ID that was being used when the previous backup occurred. 

Follow these steps to reset the password on your child’s Gabb account:

  1. Login to www.gabb.com/account
  2. Select View Details next to the profile that needs the password reset. 
  3. Select Change Password under the child’s name.
  4. Enter the new password, then select Save.

How do I move my phone number from one device to another?

Transfer your child’s phone number from one phone to another by performing a SIM swap. You can do this digitally from your Gabb account. Removing the SIM card is not required to transfer the phone number.

Follow these steps:

  1. Login to www.gabb.com/account
  2. Select View Details under the old line.
  3. Select Activate Device
  4. Select New Phone.
  5. Enter the new SIM/ICC number (found on the back of the Gabb Phone 4’s box).
  6. Select Continue.
