How does the Gabb upgrade program work?

Kids need the right tech at the right time. Gabb makes it easy for you to introduce your child to Tech in Steps™ with our upgrade program.


You can upgrade your device at any time, and you may qualify for a free upgrade, depending on the current status of your contract, and what contract you sign up for on your new device. If you don’t qualify for a free device upgrade, you may still be eligible for a discount on a new device.

We currently have one watch (Gabb Watch 3e) and two phones (Gabb Phone 4 and Gabb Phone 4 Pro) available for sale, and three service plans for each device.

Am I eligible for an upgrade?

You'll be eligible for an upgrade when your contract ends, or after you've had service with no contract for 12 months. If your line is eligible for an upgrade, you can see that in your Gabb account.

How do I order an upgrade?

Follow these steps to upgrade your Gabb device:

  1. Log in to your Gabb account.

  2. Tap Upgrade or Replace Device.

  3. Tap Upgrade Device.

  4. Tap on the device you want to upgrade.

  5. Select the new Gabb Phone or Gabb Watch you want to order, then follow the prompts to complete your upgrade order.

What is an upgrade?

An upgrade is when you purchase a new device that’s different from your current device, but you’re keeping the same phone number.

Am I eligible for an upgrade?

You can upgrade your device at any time, and you may qualify for a discounted upgrade when your contract term ends, or when you’ve had service with no contract for 12 months.

If your phone or watch is eligible for an upgrade, you'll see that when you log in to your Gabb account.

How do I upgrade my device?

To upgrade a Gabb device:

  1. Log in to your Gabb account.

  2. Tap Upgrade or replace device.

  3. Tap Upgrade Device.

  4. Tap on the device you want to upgrade.

  5. Select the new Gabb Phone or Gabb Watch you want to order, then follow the prompts to complete your upgrade order.

What discount do I get on my upgrade?

You may qualify for a discounted upgrade. What discount you get on an upgraded device depends on:

  • The type of contract you’re completing (two-year, one-year, or no contract)

  • The new contract you’re signing up for (two-year, one-year, or no contract)

When does the new contract start after I upgrade?

When you upgrade your Gabb device, the new contract starts as soon as the new device is activated.

Can I upgrade my device if my contract isn’t ending?

You can upgrade your device at any time, even if your contract isn’t ending. The discount you get depends on your old contract status, and what new contract you sign up for (if any).

How does getting an upgrade affect my monthly bill?

When you upgrade your Gabb device, it won't necessarily change your monthly bill. The pricing depends on what device you are upgrading from and to, and what contract you select.

No matter when in your billing cycle you upgrade your device, any changes to your service plan will be prorated on your next bill.

Do I have to pay an activation fee on my upgraded device?

Yes, upgraded devices have a $30 activation fee. This fee covers charges associated with activating a new device.

Can I order a replacement phone or watch from Amazon or another retailer?

Yes, all Gabb devices are available for purchase on Amazon. You can also select Buy with Prime shipping when you order on gabb.com. Gabb devices are also available at select Walmart stores.

Do I have to pay an early termination fee when getting an upgrade?

Generally you won’t have to pay an early termination fee for an upgrade, unless you’re in the middle of a contract that isn’t ending.

What is Tech in Steps™?

Tech in Steps™ is Gabb’s structured approach to introducing technology to kids, tweens, and teens by aligning developmental stages with the right Gabb device. It emphasizes giving young users “the right tech at the right time” so parents can expand access to communication tools and apps as a child grows, helping them build healthy digital habits and independence while reducing exposure to social media, internet risks, and inappropriate content.
